Italy, Queen of Wine: 2025 Harvest Up by 8% and Record Quality

With nearly 48 million hectoliters expected, our country returns to the top of the global ranking ahead of France and Spain. A promising year in all regions

Italy, Queen of Wine: 2025 Harvest Up by 8% and Record Quality

Italy is preparing to confirm itself as the world leader in wine production: according to joint estimates by Ismea, Uiv, and Assoenologi, the 2025 harvest will reach about 47.4 million hectoliters, marking a +8% compared to 2024 and bringing volumes back to average levels after two particularly poor years.

France and Spain follow

The overtaking of historical rivals is clear: France is expected to stop at 37.4 million hectoliters and Spain at 36.8, consolidating Italy's leadership in the sector. To these numbers are added the 37 million hectoliters of wine already present in the cellars, confirming the productive strength of the national sector.

Healthy grapes and ideal conditions

Behind this success is a mix of good water reserves accumulated in winter, a mild spring, and an early but irregular summer, which favored optimal and early ripening of the grapes in many areas, especially in the South, with a harvest that promises to be longer than average.

North, Center, and South: the identity of 2025 wines

Agronomic analyses are also promising on the qualitative front: fresh and long-lasting whites in the North, clear and balanced profiles in the Center, and structured and characterful reds in the South. A mix that promises to further strengthen the Italy brand in the wine world.
